Your Printable Grocery List is a Click Away

Grocery List

I’ve been using a printable grocery list like this one for years.
When I’m in a hurry (almost always!) my handwriting is so bad no one can read it, including me.
Because the list reminds me of basic needs, we rarely run out of things. That saves extra trips to the store, which is especially important these days. I use button-style magnets to attach the list and a pen to the refrigerator. When someone uses the last of anything or has a request they circle it. On grocery day all I have to do is grab the list on my way out the door.

Why Use a Printable Grocery List?

So you don’t run out of staples
To minimize trips to the grocery store
To save time at the store
So someone else can help with shopping

Some of you may remember the grocery list I offered a few years ago. This one is even better. It’s organized by common store departments like Produce and Dairy. Items under departments are in alphabetical order, making them easy for you and your family to find and circle.

How to Make Your List Even More Useful

The list is a Microsoft Word document, like all record keepers from Habitudes, our sister site.
You can edit the list with common word processors.
Here are some ways you can customize the list to make it even more useful:

  • Change the order of the departments to match your grocery store’s layout. You’ll race through the store in record time without backtracking because you missed the peanut butter two aisles ago.
  • Delete or add  items. If your family threatens to leave the dinner table at the sight of Brussels sprouts, delete them.
  • Keep your list to one page so it’s easy for you and your family to use.
  • Get specific, especially if someone else is doing the shopping. Add preferred brands and sizes. You don’t want to end up with a 40-pound jug of kitty litter you can’t even lift.
  • Change type sizes, styles or colors. Make type bigger to make it easier to read. Add fun type styles. Add colors. The possibilities are endless.
  • Print several lists at a time. That way there will always be a fresh one handy when you need it.
  • Fold the list in thirds vertically to take to the store. (Warning: Do not use a geeky clipboard. Your friends will never let you live it down.)

We Love Suggestions

Grocery List is a “work in progress.” I plan to add it to What My Family Needs to Know and Emergency Information, existing record keepers at Habitudes. If you have suggestions for improvements please let me know in the comments section below.
